Gunmen in the early hours of Sunday abducted a 33-year-old woman and shot her husband during an attack on Guye Dadi community near Zambufu in Kwara State.
According to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at about 2:10 a.m. while the family was asleep.
Alhaji Kasimu Ibrahim, 40, the victim’s husband, sustained a gunshot wound on his left shoulder while attempting to escape from the attackers who had surrounded his house and were firing sporadically.
“They came in numbers and were shooting everywhere. I was trying to get out when one of them shot me. Before I could understand what was going on, they had taken my wife, Fatima,” Ibrahim said from his hospital bed at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
The armed men reportedly whisked the woman away to an unknown destination, leaving behind blood-stained footprints and bullet casings.
Following the attack, a combined team of security operatives, including local vigilantes and hunters, conducted a search operation in and around the area.
Efforts are currently ongoing to rescue the abducted woman and apprehend the perpetrators.
