Gunmen attack motorist on Ondo highway
Armed men have attacked a female motorist along the Ondo-Ile-Oluji Road, in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State in an attempted robbery.
The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at Otaasan Area, where the victim, Mrs Adebusoye Atinuke, was reportedly driving when the assailants emerged and opened fire on her vehicle in a bid to force her to stop.
The victim escaped unhurt after reportedly driving through the attack, while the gunmen abandoned the operation and flee into the bush.
Reacting to the incident, the police said the attack was an apparent attempt to rob the motorist, but the suspects failed in their mission after the victim displayed courage and managed to drive away unharmed.
The Ondo State Police Command said it has launched a manhunt for the armed men and commenced combing of the surrounding bushes in search of the fleeing gunmen.
The police stated that the suspects had escaped into a nearby forest.
The command reassured residents of its determination to protect lives and property across the state.
It urged residents to remain calm but vigilant and to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency channels.
The command also advised motorists to be security conscious and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention.
