Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, has died while in captivity after being abducted by bandits in Katsina State.
The Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu Danmusa, confirmed the development on Saturday in a statement.
Muazu said the retired senior military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension during his captivity.
He said the state government expressed deep sorrow over the development, noting that extensive efforts were made by the government and security agencies to secure his release but to no avail.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s death while in bandits’ captivity.
“Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various security agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the commissioner said.
He, however, noted that security operatives were yet to recover his body as efforts are ongoing to locate the remains.
