Kingmakers in Oba-Ile, a community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Friday selected Prince Gbadebo Adeusi Aladetoye from the Orioge Ruling House as the new Oloba of Oba-Ile Kingdom.
Thefrontrank reports that the Oloba of Oba-Ile throne became vacant following the death of Oba Joseph Oluwadare Agunbiade on May 9, 2025, at the age of 82.
Prince Adeusi emerged as the Oloba-elect after a selection process involving Ifa divination and voting by kingmakers, under the supervision of government officials and security personnel.
An Ifa consultation conducted earlier, had reportedly identified Prince Adeusi among the five contestants for the throne.
Speaking, the chairman of the Council of Kingmakers, and Elemo of Oba-Ile, Chief Oluwatimileyin Gbemisayo, said the process was carried out in line with government directives.
“We started planning for the installation of our king for a while now and the government has been monitoring us.
“On Thursday, September 17, we had an Ifa divination and today, the government came and we informed them that out of the five contestants, the divination had chosen Gbadebo Adeusi,” Gbemisayo
disclosed.
He said the government representatives insisted that an election be conducted among the contestants despite the outcome of the divination.
“When we voted today, five out of the six kingmakers voted for Gbadebo, and as head of the kingmakers, I declared him our king.
“The representatives of the government were there to witness the election, and Gbadebo is now the king-elect of Oba-Ile,” he added.
He stated that the selection was witnessed by the six kingmakers, officials of Akure North Local Government, the councillor representing Oba-Ile Ward, Hon. Adesoye Fagoroyo, and security personnel.
Gbemisayo appealed to the indigenes and residents of the community to support the monarch-elect.
“We have made plans to reconcile with the other four contestants.
“There are no losers; we are all winners. We will set up a committee to bring everybody together for the benefit of the community,” he said.
He added that the community was awaiting official recognition and presentation of the staff of office by the Ondo State Government before the commencement of traditional installation rites.
The Oba-elect studied Linguistics in France, and Human Management and Elderly Care at the University of Sunderland, United Kingdom.
