Lawmaker, aide die in auto crash
The Leader of the Gwagwalada Area Council Legislative Arm, Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, and his aide, Ibrahim Ibwa, have been confirmed dead.
The lawmaker and his aide died in a ghastly motor accident at Sheda village on the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
It was gathered that the lawmaker died in the early hours of Thursday at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he was referred after the initial treatment at Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada.
His aide reportedly died on the spot.
Sources said the accident occurred around 3:10p.m on Wednesday, involving a head-on collision between a Mercedes-Benz car and a Sino truck at Sheda village.
Witness said three persons were travelling in the Mercedes-Benz car when the crash occurred.
The third person is said to be currently receiving medical attention.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who participated in the rescue operation and spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident.
He said one victim died at the scene, while two others, including the Speaker, were taken to the hospital.
The FRSC official added that the corpse of the deceased was deposited at Legend Hospital mortuary in Gwagwalada.
It was gathered that the Leader of the council and his aides were returning to Gwagwalada from Kwali after attending a political meeting when their vehicle collided head-on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction near Sheda village.
His remains were later buried according to Islamic rites in his Ibwa community in Gwagwalada Area Council.
Dignitaries at the burial included the chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Mohammed Kasim Ikwa; former council chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha; former House of Representatives member, Isah Egah Dobi; and other prominent politicians.
