Mali defeat Super Eagles 2-0 in friendly game

The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday suffered a 0-2 defeat to Mali in their second international friendly match played at the Grande Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.

It was a bad day for the Finidi George-led squad as they recorded no shot on goal throughout the duration of the match.

The Super Eagles had their wings clipped by the tactically sound Malian side with goals from youngsters El Bilal Touré and Kamory Doumbia on either side of the interval who handed Mali a memorable win.

Cyril Dessers missed a chance to score for the Eagles and he threw the ball away. It was Nigeria’s best chance of the match so far in the second half.

Also, Kelechi Iheanacho with a brilliant attempt forced the Malian goalkeeper to make a superb save in the second half.

The interim coach made four changes with Moses Simon, Kenneth Omeruo, Jamilu Collins, and Raphael Onyedika replacing Cyriel Dessers, Benjamin Tanimu, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Frank Onyeka in the starting eleven.
The result is a terrible setback for legendary Finidi George who was looking for another strong performance and result that could see him win the race to succeed former head coach Jose Peseiro on a substantive capacity ahead of the return of the World Cup qualifiers in the summer against South Africa and Benin Republic.
