The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, is absent from the final list of candidates released on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The INEC Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, signed the list which contains 17 governorship candidates and their running mates in the state.
SHowever, neither Gwarzo nor any candidate representing the NDC appears on the document.
A review of the three-page list shows that it features candidates from several political parties, including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abacha Muhammed Sani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as candidates from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP), among others.
Other parties represented on the list include the Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and New Democratic Party (NDP).
Despite the inclusion of candidates from these parties, the NDC and its governorship candidate, Gwarzo, are conspicuously absent from the published document.
The INEC list provides details of the candidates and their deputy governorship nominees, including their names, political affiliations, ages, genders and educational qualifications.
The commission did not provide any explanation in the document for the absence of Gwarzo and the NDC.
The development has raised questions about the NDC’s participation in the 2027 Kano governorship election.
Meanwhile, The Kano State chapter of the NDC has urged members to remain calm as controversy rages over the omission of governorship candidate Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo from the INEC list released Saturday.
The party’s Public Relations Officer, Yusif Fasaha, made the call in a statement in Kano on Sunday.
“I want to assure you that as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us.
“We have consulted the INEC, and they told us that the problem was from computer, and they will rectify it.
“So, everybody should remain calm; as from now to Monday, another list containing his name will be out,” he said.
He said that Abdussalam-Gwarzo had fulfilled all the requirements of the election, adding that “everything was done at the right time.”
