The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) has uncovered cocaine and heroin concealed in fireproof iron safe boxes during a raid on a suspected drug trafficking hotspot in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, stated this in a post shared on X on Sunday.
Babafemi explained that the drugs were found during a raid in the Abuja area of Port Harcourt, where suspected drug dealers allegedly used iron safe boxes, typically meant for securing valuables, to store high-value illicit substances.
He said the boxes were used to protect the drugs from theft and other forms of damage.
“Iron safe boxes are meant to preserve money, documents and jewellery against fire and theft, but NDLEA officers have discovered during a raid at the notorious Abuja area of Port Harcourt that drug dealers now stash high-value illicit drugs such as cocaine and heroin in same fireproof iron boxes,” Babafemi stated.
He also shared footage showing NDLEA operatives locating and opening one of the safe boxes during the operation.
