The Ondo State Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya said arrangements has been concluded to honour workers in the state for their outstanding performances during the year 2026 Workers Day.
Speaking at meeting with the founder of Layeni Ogunmakinwa Foundation, Otunba Olumide Ogunmakinwa in his office on Monday, Odusanya said arrangements had been concluded to honour deserving workers as part of activities marking the 2026 Public Service Week.
A statement by Sina Adeyeye, Director Information, Office of the HOS, said that Odusanya assured that the dedication and commitment of Ondo State workers would not go unrewarded under his leadership.
According to the Head of Service, the Layeni Ogunmakinwa had signified intention to join the state government to sponsor some categories of merit award for outstanding workers during this year’s Public Service Week celebration.
Odusanya thanked the foundation for the gesture, saying that workers in the state would continue to get recognition for their dedication to duties from government, while well meaning individuals and organisations would also be encouraged to support in celebrating and encouraging workers.
Speaking on what informed the award, Otunba Olumide Ogunmakinwa said the motive was borne out his desire to keep his late father, Chief Olayeni Ogunmakinwa’s vision to impact lives of the people alive.
According to him, his father, who retired as a Permanent Secretary in the service of the state started the initiative but he could not drive it far before his demise but the children had decided to revive it in honour of their late parents.
In his words,”My father started it when he was the Permanent Secretary in the office of Establishment and Training. That was when he came up with the Ondo Civil Service Merit Award in the late 80s.”
“When he passed on in 2010, we came with the idea that this was some of the things he was well interested in and we thought of how we can bring it back using the Layeni Ogunmakinwa Memorial Foundation.
“So, this year, the idea is to see about a minimum of ten categories of civil servants carefully selected by their various department heads for outstanding performances for recognition and awards.” he added.
It would be recalled that the Head of Service recently inaugurated a committee for the year 2026 Public Service Week celebration to the workers in the state.
