Otunba Taiwo Adegoroye, the Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has refuted reports claiming that schools within the council area have been ordered to shut down.
Adegoroye described the information as false and misleading.
The council chairman in a statement issued on Tuesday, clarified that there was no directive by him for the closure of either public or private schools in Odigbo Local Government.
According to Adegoroye, the reports circulating on some online platforms and publications were based on unverified information and rumours that did not originate from the office of the chairman.
The council boss urged residents, parents, teachers, and students to disregard the reports and continue with their lawful daily activities without fear.
He also commended members of the public and stakeholders who sought clarification before reacting to the reports.
Adegoroye noted that responsible verification helps to prevent unnecessary panic within communities.
Similarly, the Ondo State Police Command has reassured residents of Odigbo Local Government Area and the general public that there has been no recorded breach of security, terrorist threat or any incident capable of causing panic within the area.
The command in a statement on Tuesday by its spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that, “based on available intelligence and ongoing security assessments, there is no credible information suggesting any imminent threat to public safety in Odigbo or its surrounding communities.”
The command said the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Felix Ohagwu, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical commanders and intelligence units to sustain heightened surveillance, intelligence gathering and visibility policing across the State, particularly around schools, public facilities, critical national assets, and other vulnerable locations.
“Residents and Students are encouraged to remain calm and continue their lawful daily activities without fear or apprehension.
“The security architecture within Odigbo Local Government Area and across the State remains robust and effective, while security agencies continue to monitor developments and respond proactively to any emerging concerns.
“The Command further notes that misinformation and unverified reports have the potential to create unnecessary panic and anxiety among members of the public.
“Citizens are therefore advised to rely solely on information disseminated through official channels and refrain from spreading rumours capable of undermining public confidence and security.
“The Commissioner of Police urges residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information. He reiterates that security remains a collective responsibility and that the cooperation of the public is essential to sustaining the peace currently enjoyed across the State.
“The Ondo State Police Command remains fully committed to the protection of lives and property and assures all residents that it will continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to maintain law, order and public safety throughout Ondo State,” it stated.
