Students in the Ondo North Senatorial District of Ondo State have dissociated themselves from the alleged “student empowerment programme” organised by the Senator representing the district, Jide Ipinsagba.
The students under aegis of the Council of Ondo North Indigenous Presidents (CONIP), an umbrella body of student leaders across the six local government areas in the senatorial district, in a statement on Sunday dissociated themselves from the purported programme.
Thefrontrank reports that a statement signed by Prince Adeyinka Ajagunna, SSA, Media and Communication to Ipinsagba, had last week announced the distribution over 100 back-to-school bags to students in district by the Senator.
Ajagunna explained that the event held at Mega School, Oke-Oka and Adekunle Ajasin Town Hall, Isua-Akoko, marked the end of the holiday lessons in the Senatorial District.
The disclaimer of the programme was signed by CONIP Chairman, Comrade Ajibuwa Imoleayo Emmanuel, and other student leaders in the district.
They claimed that those paraded as students that benefited were largely unknown and do not represent the constituency.
The statement read in parts: “It has come to our attention that a student-focused empowerment program was recently held under the name and sponsorship of the Distinguished Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District.
“We, the recognized student leaders across all Ondo North Senatorial District, wish to categorically state that we were neither informed, consulted, nor involved in the planning, organization, or execution of this said program.
“We further state that: No formal communication was extended to any known student bodies or leadership across Ondo North.
“The due process of engagement with students, which is standard practice for programs of this nature, was completely ignored.
“Upon verification, the beneficiaries paraded as students are largely unknown to us and do not represent our constituency.
“In view of the above, we fully disassociate ourselves and the entire student community of Ondo North from the said program.
“We encourage leaders at all levels to respect due process, transparency, and inclusivity when dealing with Student-oriented initiatives.”
The statement was also signed by Bolaji Sunday Nathaniel, NASSES National President/P.R.O, Council of Ondo North Indigenous Presidents; Ayoola Joshua Ayodele, ANWSUG National President/Gen Sec, Council of Ondo North Indigenous Presidents.
Others are; Idris Samuel Oluwaseun, NAANES National President; Oluwabukunmi Eniafelamo Adekolu, OLGASU National President; Comr. Akinola Blessing Ayodele, NAASWU National President.
