
The Police in Ondo State have arrested a 23-year-old man, Zaccheous Tosin, for allegedly robbing a woman at gunpoint in Ikare-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state DSP Ayanlade Olushola, said in a statement on Wednesday in Akure.
Olushola explained that the incident occurred on Monday, August 25, when the suspect attacked one Mrs Ogunbodude Serah, who resides behind Winners’ Chapel in the town.
According to him, the suspect pretends to enter the victim’s backyard under the guise of plucking bitter leaves but suddenly turned against her, forcefully snatching her handbag before attempting to flee.
“The victim immediately raised an alarm which attracted the attention of detectives from Ikare Divisional Headquarters who were close to the scene.
“The operatives gave the suspect a hot chase and successfully apprehended him,” he said.
The police spokesperson said that a locally made short gun was found on the suspect at the time of his arrest, confirming that he was armed during the robbery.
The case has since been transferred to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Office in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.
He members of the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding and continue to provide useful information to aid the police in curbing crime in the state.
