The Police in Ondo State have foiled a kidnap attempt in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government area of the state, rescuing the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba.
A statement on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said one of the suspects was arrested.
Jimoh explained that the incident happened on Tuesday, May 5.
He disclosed policemen were on routine patrol along the Oba-Ile axis of Akure, when encountering a distress situation involving the occupant of a moving vehicle.
“The information indicated that an individual was shouting for help within a red Toyota Camry.
“The operatives mobilised and initiated a coordinated pursuit of the suspected vehicle.
“During the chase, the suspects forcefully ejected the victim, later identified as Kayode Alaba, from the moving vehicle in a bid to evade arrest.
“However, the police team sustained the pursuit, which culminated in the arrest of one suspect identified as Adegbenro Adeola, while other members of the syndicate fled the scene. The vehicle was recovered,” he said.
Jimoh said that preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was abducted from his residence located on Irese Road, Akure, before being rescued.
“The victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect has provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations,” he said
The PPRO said the case had been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Akure, for investigation.
Jimoh urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide prompt and credible information to police.
