The Police Command in Ogun State has commenced investigation into the midnight attack on student hostels at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ibogun Campus.
Armed robbers had on Saturday invaded the hostels, causing panic and forcing students to flee their rooms.
The robbers stormed the hostels, shooting sporadically and dispossessing students of phones, laptops, and other valuables.
Some victims sustained injuries while attempting to escape.
“Armed robbery attack at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ibogun Campus, Ifo LGA, Ogun State, at midnight. A gang of about 12 armed robbers invaded student hostels, stealing phones and gadgets, carjacking a student’s vehicle, and leaving some students injured and bleeding.
“The robbers were heavily armed, shooting as they moved across different hostels on campus. Students were left in fear and panic. Some sustained injuries. This level of criminality on a university campus cannot be tolerated.
“We call on Ogun State Govt, Police NG, and Ogun Police Command to immediately investigate this incident, arrest the perpetrators, and ensure the safety of students on campus. Our students deserve to learn in a safe environment,” a post on X read.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Police Division and the Area Commander have been deployed to the scene to assess the situation.
