A delegation from the Oyo State Government was on Saturday denied access to the rescued 44 school pupils and teachers abducted at the Oriire Local Government Area, who are currently receiving medical attention at the 2nd Division Medical Centre, Ibadan.
The victims were rescued on Friday after spending 56 days in captivity.
The delegation was led by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
Other members were the Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Adewumi Ajetunmobi; Special Adviser on Security Coordination, Major General Tokunbo Omoniyi (rtd); former Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Professor Temitope Alonge; and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The delegation had arrived at the military facility in morning to assess the condition of the victims and offer support as part of the state government’s commitment to their recovery, but they were stopped at the entrance and prevented from seeing them.
Sources at the facility said some soldiers on duty turned back the delegation, citing instructions from higher authorities as the reason for restricting access.
