Two boys; Oloyede Ayo and Clinton Koleola, have died after coming in contact with a live electric wire that reportedly fell on a shop along Apefon Road in Idanre, Ondo State.
The two victims were reportedly seven years each.
The incident occurred on Saturday, throwing residents of the area into panic as the children reportedly attempted to escape from the shop after the electricity wire fell.
An eyewitness said the boys were inside the shop when the live cable suddenly came down on the building, causing panic among people in the vicinity.
The source said the children tried to run out of the premises but unfortunately came into contact with the fallen wire and were fatally electrocuted.
The incident was subsequently reported to the police, who commenced inquiries into the circumstances that led to the deaths.
Confirming the tragedy, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said preliminary investigation indicated that a live electric cable had fallen on the shop.
Jimoh said the children were electrocuted while attempting to escape, adding that the police command had launched an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police spokesman sympathised with the families of the deceased and assured them that the command would thoroughly investigate the incident.
