Wife allegedly machetes husband in Ondo
A woman, Olatunde Mary, has been charged to court for allegedly attacking her husband with a cutlass during a domestic dispute in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The defendant, a resident of Ilado II, Igbatoro Road, Akure, was charged to court by police.
A statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson for Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident occurred on June 2, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m during a domestic altercation between the suspect and her husband, Olatunde Julius, turned violent.
During the dispute, the suspect allegedly assaulted her husband, using a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his left hand, causing him severe bodily injury.
The matter was reported at the police on June 3, 2026, prompting detectives to immediately commence an investigation.
“Investigators obtained statements from both the victim and the suspect, gathered relevant evidence, and documented the extent of the victim’s injuries, which had been medically assessed and treated.
“Upon the establishment of a prima facie case, the suspect was arrested and subsequently arraigned for prosecution.
“The Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, used the occasion to reaffirm the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on domestic violence, noting that perpetrators would be held accountable regardless of gender, status, or relationship with the victim.
“The Ondo State Police Command views all forms of domestic violence as a serious threat to the safety, dignity and well-being of individuals,” the statement read.
The command appealed to members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence, abuse, and other gender-related offences to the nearest police station for immediate intervention and legal action.
