The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko(AAUA) Branch, has declared an indefinite strike over non-implementation of the 2025 agreement between the federal government and the union, as well as unresolved local issues affecting the institution.
According to the branch chairman, Professor Prof. Bolu Oshodi, the indefinite strike takes effect from Tuesday, August 11.
Thefrontrank reports that the union said its decision followed a branch congress held on Tuesday in Akungba Akoko over the continued non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and other unresolved issues at the university.
The branch said the strike had an overwhelming approval of its members at the congress.
The union stated that despite several engagements with the university authorities, presentation of the agreement, and the issuance of ultimatum, there had been no meaningful response.
The union said it had also obtained approval from the national leadership of ASUU to embark on the industrial action.
The branch noted that it had exercised considerable restraint and pursued dialogue in the interest of the university, its students and other stakeholders.
The union insisted that agreements reached between the government and the union must be respected and implemented before the strike would called off.
The development followed ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) authorising 20 university branches to begin processes towards industrial action over the alleged non-implementation of the 2025 agreement.
Thefrontrank reports that the union’s NEC meeting held at the University of Abuja between August 8 and August 9, had directed the affected branches to commence strikes if their demands were not met.
