An abducted female farmer from the Parubber community in the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State has tragically died in captivity.
The deceased, one of two farmers abducted, died in the forest despite a 72-hour rescue operation by security operatives.
Thefrontrank reports that the victims were working on their farms along Ondo-Ife Road when gunmen whisked them into a forest and demanded a N100 million ransom from their families.
The State Commander of Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, made the disclosure on Monday in a chat with journalists in Akure.
Adeleye explained that the Corps deployed nine operatives of its special squad after receiving a distress call and contacted sister security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), to commence a joint tracking operation.
“The operation lasted for about 72 hours, during which the kidnappers allegedly frustrated the rescue effort by sending security operatives false geo-location signals before the victims were eventually traced to a reserve forest several kilometers away from the scene of the abduction.
“We were able to rescue a life without a problem, the man. But unfortunately, by the time we got there, the lady was exhausted and we couldn’t revive her because we met her dead or unconscious,” he stated.
