Former Ondo Senator, Kunlere dumps PDP

Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, who represented Ondo South on the platform of the Labour Party(LP) in the 7TH National Assembly, has dumped the party.

The Igbotako-born politician, was in the Senate from 2011 to 2015.

Kunlere announced his resignation from the Party on Wednesday in a letter he personally signed and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Igbotako Ward 2, Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

According to the letter, “I hereby tender my letter of resignation from the PDP with effect from January 24.

“I sincerely express my appreciation to you and other members of the party for your cooperation and support throughout the period of my membership of the party.

“Thank you and God bless.

“I will decide who to vote for after the primaries by God’s grace but no discussion with any political party for now.”

In August 2014, Kunlere dumped the Labour Party for the PDP, describing his decision as “personal.”

Born in April 1960 in the Igbotako, Kunlere read Law at Ogun State University now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.

 

He ran for election to the Senate for Ondo South in April 2007 on the platform of Labour Party, but was defeated by Senator Hosea Ehinlanwo.

In March 2009 he was appointed Special Adviser to Governor Olusegun Mimiko on Political Affairs and Legal Matters.

In August 2010, he resigned from the position to compete for the Ondo South Senatorial District.

In the April 2011 election for the Ondo South Senatorial seat, running on the Labour Party platform, Kunlere defeated former Governor Olusegun Agagu of the PDP with a narrow margin of over 8,000 votes.
