Gunmen have abducted the traditional ruler of Ode Ariya community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Adeniyi Adelana.
The 60-year-old traditional ruler was kidnapped in his residence on Saturday at about 8:00 p.m by the armed men.
The assailants reportedly invaded the victim’s residence and whisked him away through a bush path to an unknown destination.
During the attack, the traditional ruler’s wife sustained gunshot injury om her right hand.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said operatives from the B Division in Owo were immediately deployed to the area after receiving a distress report.
“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a combined team of police operatives and other security personnel to the scene.
“The area was secured while preliminary investigations commenced,” Jimoh said.
The command’s spokesperson also disclosed that the victim’s wife suffered a gunshot injury to her right hand during the attack and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
“She was promptly rescued and rushed to a medical facility where she is receiving treatment and responding positively to medical care,” he stated.
He added that security operatives had intensified efforts to rescue the victim, noting that tactical teams were combing forests and suspected hideouts to arrest the kidnappers.
