Gunmen on Wednesday killed the Elepe of Ohi-Ogidi, in the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Chief Ojo Olayinka.
The lifeless body of the traditional ruler was discovered on his farm.
It was gathered that when the monarch did not return home from his farm, the community went to his farm, where his lifeless body was discovered.
The Kogi state government, while reacting to the incident, promised that the killers of the traditional ruler would be apprehended and brought to justice.
Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communications, in a statement in Lokoja described the killing of the monarch as barbaric that “tend to undermine our determination and progress in securing the lives and property of Kogites.”
According to him, Governor Usman Ododo has directed security chiefs in the state and the State Security Adviser to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are apprehended and face the full wrath of the law.
“We urge the people of Ogidi and Ijumu Local Government Area to remain calm and not take the laws into their hands, no matter the level of provocation, as the state apparatus is strong enough to defend and secure the lives of our people and bring antisocial elements to book.
“The people should remain vigilant and volunteer useful intelligence to security agencies and community leaders.
“Our hearts and thoughts are with the immediate family of the deceased, the Ogidi community, the people of Ijumu Local Government Area, and indeed the traditional institution. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.
“The administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo will remain committed to the security of lives and property and will make life unbearable for criminals in the state,” Fanwo said.
