The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord the winner of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
Announcing the result on Sunday, the State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Oye- Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Joshua Ogunwale, said Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress(APC), who secured 444,815 votes.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salam, came third with 17,180 votes.
Declaring the result, Ogunwale said: “I, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwale, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the Osun State Governorship Election held on August 15, 2026.
“That Ademola Adeleke of the Accord, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
INEC said a total of 2, 339,544 voters were registered for the election, while 1,010,684 voters were accredited.
The commission recorded 985,079 valid votes, and 20,721 rejected votes.
Oyebamiji, the state’s former finance commissioner, came second, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, emerged as the second runner-up.
A total of 15 political parties contested the election, with 1,906,390 permanent voter cards collected, according to INEC.
Adeleke, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he won his first election in 2022, had touted his achievements in the state’s economy, infrastructure, pension payments, the health sector, and digital transformation.
INEC announced on Sunday that Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji emerged victorious in 11 LGAs.
