A two-storey building on Tuesday collapsed at Adegbola on Oyemekun Road in Akure, Ondo State capital.
The collapsed building which was under construction, left many site workers sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
Eyewitnesses said workers were on site carrying works on the building when it collapsed at about 3.30pm.
According to N274 News, videos from the scene showed sympathisers helping out with the rescue of those trapped in the building.
Thefrontrank reports that as of the time of filing this report it was unclear if there are fatalities.
The state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Sunday Olajide who addressed the media at the scene, said an investigation will be launched to uncover both the immediate and long-term causes of the incident.
Olajide also issued a stern warning to developers in the state about the use of substandard building materials, urging them to prioritize the safety of residents.
He called on developers to always secure the necessary permits and approvals before commencing construction projects.
In the meantime, the Ondo State Government has sealed off the construction site and vowed to take further action based on the outcome of the investigation.
