Nine passengers die in crash on Ore-Ijebu-Ode Expressway
Tragedy struck on Monday as nine people died in a road accident at the Ilese Toll-Gate on the Benin-Ijebu-Ode Expressway in Ogun State.
The accident involved a commercial passenger vehicle bearing the inscription DELTA LINE and a heavy-duty truck.
The two vehicles were said to have collided head-on, resulting in a devastating impact that left the Delta Line bus severely mangled.
Confirming the incident, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, said the incident occurred at about 4:55 p.m at Bethel area on the Ijebu-Ode/Ore Express Road.
The Sector’s spokesperson, Mr Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed that the incident involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus, with registration number 14B-299DT, belonging to Delta Line, and a white Sino Truck, with registration number AAB162XD, belonging to Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
According to him, nine persons, comprising three males and six females, were involved in the crash and all died.
He said the incident occurred during rainfall, with the road surface wet.
He stated that preliminary investigation identified speed violation as the probable cause.
The victims were reportedly passengers travelling from the eastern part of the country when the tragedy occurred.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu-Ode, for identification and further necessary procedures.
