Ondo guber: I’m not fronting for anybody — APC female aspirant
40-year-old Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, on Wednesday obtained her Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to become the first female governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo State.
Mrs Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, a mechanical engineer cum politician, was born on May 27, 1983 in Arigidi Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of the state.
The party has pegged the Expression of Interest form at N10 million, while the Nomination form goes for N40 million.
The ruling party, however, gave female aspirants and persons with disabilities concession to only procure the Expression of Interest form while the Nomination form is free.
Speaking after obtaining her forms at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Waheed-Adekojo denied fronting for any political godfather or anybody in the state.
“I am not fronting for anybody. I have just picked a N10 million form that is also not being paid for by any godfather.
“It was paid with my hard earned money through which I have also single handedly raised 15,000 women and youths in Akoko and Ondo State generally on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.
“I am not in the race to represent or serve the interest of anybody. I am a woman of the people who is closer to those at the grassroots.
“As a mechanical engineer from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and a Fellow of the Society of Engineers, I am in this race to win and become the first female governor of Ondo State,” she stated.
Adekojo promised to raise the standard of living of the people of the state.
Speaking on zoning of the governorship position, Waheed-Adekojo, who hails from the Northern Senatorial District of the state noted; “I know our people are not sentimental, there is something we call rotational zone, and if anybody wants to say the truth, our late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was the last person that finished the rotation.
“It was a complete circle, and in the history of Ondo state, when its time to pick the zone, that will start the circle again, they make it so flexible and can come from any of the senatorial districts.
“Late former Akeredolu finished the circle, it is now open for anybody from any of the zone to pick it first.”
