Ondo Labour leaders congratulate new Head of Service, pledge support
The leadership of the Organized Labour in Ondo State on Monday paid a congratulatory visit to the new Head of Service(HoS), Mr Bayo Philip, in his office in Akure, the state capital.
Speaking during the visit, the state Chairman of the Trade Union Congress(TUC), Comrade Fatuase Clement; his counterparts from Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), Comrade Victor Amoko; and Joint Negotiation Council(JNC); Comrade Ademola Olapade, pledged their support for the new Head of Service for a successful tenure.
This is contained in a statement issued in Akure by Mr Sina Adeyeye, Director Media, office of the Head of Service.
According to Fatuase, the visit is to identify with the new HoS as partners and to pledge their allegiance to his office as well as to assure him of their continued collaboration.
While noting that the era of endless disagreement between workers and government were gone, Fatuase disclosed that labour would continue to engage government constructively through negotiation and dialogue in their quest for the welfare of Ondo State workers.
The TUC Chairman, who expressed optimism that the workers would have a better deal under the new HoS, however cautioned him not to allow his office to be used to politicize the public service.
Reacting, the Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip, appreciated the labour leaders for their support, saying he was ready to work with them harmoniously for the interest of the public servants in the state.
He assured them that his doors would always be opened to labour for effective collaboration.
Mr Philip emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving issue between government and labour, describing it as cost and time saving.
“When you spot anything that can generate disaffection, let my office know and tell the generality of workers that you represent that my interest is about the welfare of workers; serving and retired.
“Whatever government can do within its resources and things that are legal, we will continue to tell government to do it,” he said.
While noting that the state government had been proactive in the issues relating workers’ welfare and agitations, he said efforts were on to make promotion of workers faster than it had been in the past.
