Ondo received ₦53.50bn from FAAC in Q1 2026
Lagos State received the highest allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) in the first quarter of 2026, taking home ₦200.21 billion between January and March, according to figures released on states’ revenue allocations.
The figures show that oil-producing states continued to dominate the distribution chart, with Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom ranking among the top beneficiaries of federal revenue allocations during the three-month period.
Delta State emerged as the second-highest recipient with ₦143.41 billion, followed by Rivers State with ₦123.96 billion. Bayelsa received ₦114.48 billion, while Akwa Ibom got ₦109.76 billion.
Among the non-oil-producing states, Kano posted the strongest performance, receiving ₦75.04 billion, while Oyo followed with ₦68.98 billion.
Other states that featured prominently among the top 10 recipients were Jigawa with ₦55.74 billion, Ondo with ₦53.50 billion, and Katsina with ₦52.58 billion.
The allocation pattern further underscored the significant impact of derivation revenues on the earnings of oil-producing states, many of which continue to benefit from increased crude oil-related receipts.
The figures also revealed a wide disparity in allocations across the federation.
At the lower end of the table, Ebonyi received ₦39.46 billion, Gombe got ₦37.90 billion, while Ogun and Cross River received ₦36.14 billion and ₦35.15 billion respectively.
Ekiti State recorded the lowest allocation among the 36 states, receiving ₦17.12 billion during the period under review.
The gap between Lagos, the highest recipient, and Ekiti, the lowest recipient, stood at approximately ₦183.09 billion.
Analysts note that while population, landmass, internally generated revenue performance and other statutory allocation indices influence revenue sharing, derivation remains a major factor behind the dominance of oil-producing states in FAAC distributions.
The latest figures are expected to reignite debates on fiscal federalism, revenue allocation formulas, and the need for states to strengthen internally generated revenue sources amid fluctuating federal allocations.
