The Police Command in Ekiti State has arrested three persons in connection with the alleged conspiracy, abduction, and assault of the Chairman of Ikere-West Local Council Development Area, Rufus Olorunfemi.
The command, in a statement on Thursday by its spokesperson, SP Abutu Sunday, said the incident occurred on June 3, at about 9:00 p.m. on Anoye Street in Ikere-Ekiti.
According to Abutu, preliminary police findings allege that three Hilux vehicles conveying armed men in camouflage uniforms intercepted the council chairman and Mr Funso Ajayi, before whisking them away to a property linked to one of the candidates contesting the 2026 Ekiti governorship election
He alleged that the victims were assaulted at the location before they were released.
Abutu stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other people believed to be involved in the incident.
The command added that all suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.
He urged residents to remain calm, and cautioned political supporters and citizens against taking laws into their own hands or engaging in acts that could escalate tensions in the state.
