Protesters hit Lagos, Benin streets over economic hardship

Some protesters have taken to the streets in Lagos and Benin City, Edo State capital, protesting the increasing cost of living in the country in spite of police warning.

Adegoke Fayoade, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, had on Sunday, warned residents to desist from any street protest.

Thefrontrank reports that the protest was organised by a human right group, “Take It Back Movement”.

The protesters, with placards of different inscriptions condemning the current economic situation, were seen around Ojuelegba and adjoining streets.

The protest was peaceful, but some policemen were seem monitoring the proceedings.

In Benin City, Edo State capital, Civil Society Organisations in the state on Monday also stormed the streets protesting the current economic hardship.

Members of the CSOs carried various placards such as “End Economic Hardship”, “FG End the Hunger in Nigeria Now,” among others to state their grievances.

The Benin protest is coming after Ibadan residents protested against economic hardship.
