President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Chief Sade Ogunbiyi, the Iyalode of Remoland and wife of renowned academic, journalist, and entrepreneur, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, on the occasion of her 80th birthday which comes up on June 6, 2026.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, says the President commended Mrs Ogunbiyi’s invaluable contributions to Nigeria and the international community, particularly through her outstanding service in the education sector and other areas of national development.
The President noted that Mrs Ogunbiyi devoted herself to the study of the English Language and Educational Administration before later transitioning into the banking sector.
Armed with a First Degree from the University of Ibadan and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision,
She taught English and Social Studies at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State; Lane Middle School, Bedford, New York, United States; and the United Nations International School, New York.
Mrs Ogunbiyi also spent ten years at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, where she served as Chief Personnel and Administrative Officer across various faculties.
She later joined NAL Merchant Bank in Lagos, rising to the position of Human Resources Manager before retiring in 1996.
From 1996 to 2001, she served as Deputy Managing Director of Signal Health Nigeria Limited, a privately owned pharmaceutical company.
President Tinubu further noted that Mrs Ogunbiyi’s strict Christian upbringing prepared her for a life of devotion to Christianity and selfless community service.
As Iyalode of Remoland, she succeeded the late Chief HID Awolowo, wife of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Tinubu described her life as a remarkable example of dedication, perseverance, and personal development, noting that despite more than five decades of commitment to her family, she continued to pursue academic excellence both within and outside Nigeria.
The President also praised her distinguished career as a teacher, university administrator, human resources professional, entrepreneur, and avid golfer.
Tinubu wished Mrs Ogunbiyi many more years of good health, happiness, and fulfillment alongside her husband, Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi.
