Violence erupted in the Ojoo area of Ibadan on Wednesday after a Yoruba tricycle mechanic was allegedly stabbed to death by a Hausa scrap collector.
The incident, which reportedly occurred overnight, created panic among residents and disrupted normal activities as tensions escalated in parts of the community.
Eyewitness accounts, the victim, identified as a Yoruba tricycle mechanic, was allegedly stabbed to death during an altercation involving suspected Hausa scrap collectors.
However, the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially confirmed by Police Command in Oyo State.
The alleged killing sparked outrage among some residents, leading to clashes involving youths and raising fears of possible reprisal attacks.
Several residents reportedly fled the area in search of safety as the unrest intensified.
Witnesses said many businesses were forced to close while motorists and commuters avoided the area amid concerns over the deteriorating security situation.
In response, security personnel, including operatives of Operation Burst and other security agencies, were deployed to strategic locations across Ojoo to restore order and prevent the violence from spreading to neighbouring communities.
The heavy security presence gradually brought the situation under control, while residents were urged to remain calm and refrain from actions capable of escalating tensions.
The Oyo State Government is yet to issue an official statement confirming the incident or announcing any arrests.
