Ondo 2024: Jimoh Ibrahim intensifies consultations, begins wards tour
Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, a leading governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo State, has intensified consultations with party leaders ahead of the governorship primary in the State.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), governorship primaries will hold from April 6 to April 27, while the election holds on November 16.
Ibrahim was elected to represent Ondo South Senatorial District on the platform of APC on February 25, 2023.
The governorship hopeful is currently on the tour of 203 wards across the 18 local government areas, introducing “Aseyori Card” with a target of one million votes for the ruling party in the election.
Ibrahim is also relaying the message of Renewed Hope at his meetings with grassroots leaders of the party.
The aspirant is reaching out to potential delegates and also setting up mobilisation committees at the ward, local government and state levels.
Accompanying Ibrahim on the tour are APC chieftains in the state including former Minister of State, Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Tayo Alasoadura; former Caretaker Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Om’oba Abayomi Adesanya; among others.
The national leadership of APC has not released the guidelines for the party primary billed for April. It is also not clear whether it will be direct or indirect primary.
Ibrahim is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Global Fleet Group, a diversified conglomerate based in Nigeria, with business interests and subsidiaries in neighbouring West African countries.
In July 2022, he was awarded a professional Business Doctorate (BusD) by the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
He studied law at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile Ife, graduating Bachelor of Laws (LLB). He obtained the degree of Master of Public Administration (MPA), also from OAU.
His investments include oil & gas distribution, hotels, resorts, airlines, banking, real estate, insurance, publishing and investments.
His political journey has been ups and downs.
Ibrahim’s governorship bid in 2003 and 2016 on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party respectively did not come to reality.
However, Ibrahim never deserted the political field particularly in Ondo State. He teamed up with APC and last year, he was elected senator.
