The pioneer spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo State, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, has appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to relocate the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) headquaters from Akure to Igbokoda, to ensuring closer proximity to its mandate area.
Adesanya, a Senior Special Assistant to the Senate President, Office of the Deputy Senate President, made the appeal in an open letter to Aiyedatiwa on Friday in Akure.
He argued that the relocation of the commission’s headquarters would allow it to be closer to the people it is serving, and more effective and useful at Igbokoda than in Akure, where it is presently sited.
The former chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area also suggested the establishment of the Ondo State University of Marine and Aquatic Sciences in Ilajẹ Local Government Area, towards leveraging on the 91nmi coastline and creating job opportunities.
“This will not only boost the local economy but also put Ilajẹ on the global map,” he stated.
Additionally, Adesanya charged the governor to focus on the development of the riverine communities in terms of infrastructure, education and healthcare.
The letter read in parts: “Your Excellency, as you journey into your second year anniversary in office, time is of the essence. Every second counts, and I’m impressed by your efforts across the state so far.
“As you continue to serve, I’d like to remind you of your roots – Ilajẹ, particularly Obenla – the community that has contributed significantly to the state’s growth and development.
“In light of this, I humbly propose the following initiatives to further boost the progress of your administration:
“Allocate substantial portion of the capital budget to develop Ilajẹ, focusing on infrastructure, education and healthcare.
“Establish the Ondo State University of Marine and Aquatic Sciences in Ilajẹ, leveraging our 91nmi coastline and creating opportunities for the people. This will not only boost the local economy but also put Ilajẹ on the global map.
“Relocate the OSOPADEC headquarters to Ilaje, its mandated area, to focus on developing the oil-producing area and ensuring the community benefits from its natural resources.
“Prioritize the dualisation of the Zero-Zero to Araromi Seaside road, enhancing connectivity, commerce and tourism in the area.
“Explore reclaiming Ilajẹ towns from sea incursion, ensuring the community’s safety and prosperity. Lagos’s successful reclamation projects, like Bar Beach and Victoria Island, serve as inspiring examples.
“These suggestions aim to enhance your government’s impact, drive progress, and leave a lasting legacy in Ilajẹ and Ondo State as a whole, he stated”.
