The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has reportedly substituted a former lawmaker, Hon. Gbenga Omole, as its house of assembly candidate for Akoko South-West Constituency 1.
Omole, a staunch supporter of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, resigned as the Special Adviser on Transport to the governor to contest for a seat in the Ondo State House of Assembly.
Reliable party sources disclosed that Omole was being replaced with another aspirant, Raymond Daodu.
Thefrontrank gathered that the alleged substitution has thrown a spanner in the works of the Aiyedatiwa’s political group, whose members are still “mourning” after losing their tickets in the party’s national assembly primaries.
However, some leaders of the party in Akoko South West Constituency I have rejected the alleged replacement of Omole.
The leaders made their position known in a communiqué issued after a meeting on Thursday, appealing to the national leadership of APC to uphold the outcome of the May 20, 2026 primary.
They described the alleged substitution as a violation of the party’s internal democratic process.
The leaders stated that the primary, conducted across the eight wards of the constituency that produced Omole as the candidate, was supervised by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).
“We stand firmly by the outcome of the APC primary election held on May 20, 2026, and declare our total support for the mandate freely given to Hon. Akogun Olugbenga Omole by party members.
“To allow an individual who bypassed local party structures and lost a transparent election to usurp a democratic mandate would severely damage party morale, discourage loyal party faithful and weaken the APC’s electoral prospects in Ondo State,” the communique read in parts
