The Police Command in Ondo State says it has arrested six suspected cultists in Akungba and Iwaro-Akoko communities.
A statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh said the suspects were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, June 16, 2026, by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) following credible intelligence on suspected cult activities in the area.
The suspects arrested are Damilare Kayode, 30;, Adejoro Godwin, 30; Adedapo Ogunro, 36; Chisom Okechukwu, 21; Ademulegun Imisi,26; and Odugunle Bukola, 21.
The command said preliminary investigations linked the suspects to unlawful confraternities operating within the Akoko axis.
A search of the suspects reportedly led to the recovery of several items believed to be connected to cult activities, including five battle axes, one jackknife, various charms, and confraternity paraphernalia such as boots, yellow singlets, and face caps.
It said that the items had been taken into police custody as exhibits.
The police stated that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.
Authorities also said intelligence gathered from the operation is being analyzed to identify other members of the group and uncover wider networks.
The command commended the operatives involved in the operation and reaffirmed commitment to combating cultism and violent crime.
It urged residents to continue to provide timely and credible information to support the ongoing security operations in the state.
