The last-minute moves by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State to reverse the automatic tickets granted some serving national assembly members from the state by the All Progressives Congress(APC) leadership might have hit a brick wall.
Aiyedatiwa had on Saturday, after been informed of the plan by the party’s National Working Committee(NWC) granting return tickets to some serving members of the national assembly hurriedly left Akure, the state capital, to Abuja.
Sources disclosed that meetings by the governor with the national leadership and some influential chieftains of the party in Abuja since Saturday ended with a promise that “we will look into it.”
Sources within the governor’s camp told Thefrontrank that Aiyedatìwa is contemplating meeting with President Bola Tinubu for his intervention in the primaries logjam.
The APC had officially issued nomination forms to some current federal lawmakers from the state, directing them to finalise and submit their documentation immediately.
According to APC national secretariat, the party’s senatorial candidates are; Isaac Kekemeke, Ondo South; Adeniyi Adegbonmire, Ondo Central; and Jide Ipinsagba, Ondo North.
For the House of Representatives, the list comprises; Akoko East/West: Ifeoluwa Ehindero; Ondo West/Ondo East: Michael Olajide Akintomide; Okitipupa/Irele: Jimi Odimayo; Akure South/Akure North: Omowunmi Olatunji; Akoko South East/Akoko South West: Adeferati Gboyega; Owo/Ose: Timilehin Adelegbe; Idanre/Ifedore: Festus Akingbaso; Odigbo/Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo: Festus Adefiranye; and Ilaje/Ese-Odo: Donald Ojogo
A source within Aiyedatiwa’s political camp said the governor is determined to see the issue of the primaries logjam to a logical conclusion and ensure that those granted automatic tickets by the NWC are reversed.
“Well, Mr Governor is still in Abuja meeting with those that matters on this issue. No concrete steps from those that are concerned except promise that they would look into the complaints,” a competent government source said in Akure.
Speaking on the development, a former aspirant for the House of Representatives, who pleaded anonymity, simply said: “A governor who lacks a “team player” mentality struggles to build consensus, alienates critical stakeholders, and often runs an isolated administration.”
