The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected car thief, Adesola Ogunrotifa, and the successful recovery the stolen vehicle.
A statement by the command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident was reported on July 5, 2026, by Mrs Remilekun of Oba-Ile, in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
“The complainant informed the Police that she had employed one Adesola Ogunrotifa, a 40-year-old man, as her personal driver in July 2025.
“According to her report, on Sunday, 5th July, 2026, the suspect drove her to the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, Akure, for a church service.
“However, after dropping her off at the church premises, he abandoned her and unlawfully drove away with her Hyundai saloon car purportedly heading towards Abuja.
“Following the report, the Command immediately launched a comprehensive investigation.
“Acting on credible intelligence and deploying strategic investigative techniques, a team of detectives from B-division Akure painstakingly tracked the suspect to Abuja, where he was successfully apprehended.
“The stolen Hyundai saloon vehicle was also recovered intact.
“The suspect has since been charged to court for prosecution in accordance with the law.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, PSC, MNIPS, MSPSP, commended the professionalism and dedication displayed by the investigating team, whose swift and intelligence-driven operation led to the successful recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspect.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven within or outside Ondo State. It also encourages members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, assuring residents that every genuine complaint will receive prompt and professional attention.
“The Ondo State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property while bringing offenders to justice,” the statement read.
