The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Taiwo Adegoroye, has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools in the council area over rising insecurity.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the chairman’s Special Assistant on New Media, Olatunji Babatunde.
The council boss said the measure was aimed at protecting residents, particularly schoolchildren and education workers.
The statement read: “In view of the prevailing security challenges across the country, the Executive Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Otunba Taiwo Adegoroye, has directed the immediate closure of all “Private, Public Schools” within Odigbo Local Government Area until further notice.
“The Chairman stated that the directive is aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of residents, particularly pupils, students, teachers, and other school personnel.
“He, however, clarified that candidates currently sitting for national examinations will be allowed access to their respective school premises strictly for examination purposes.
“The Council boss warned that any school found violating this directive would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law.
“He also appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and restrict unnecessary movements in order to enhance their safety amid the current security situation.
“Furthermore, the Chairman assured residents that his administration is working closely with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security measures across the local government and ensure the protection of lives and property.
“Honourable Adegoroye reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, safety, and security of all residents of Odigbo Local Government and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities.”
